What is it

The Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy is the most common weight loss operation in the world. It is popular because of its simplicity and good results.  It is particularly good for people with BMI's less than 40

How is it done

​

The operation is keyhole and involves the removal of 80% of the stomach. The operation effectively reduces the capacity of the stomach from 2 litres to a 50 ml long, thin stomach tube.

  • Requirement for lifelong yearly blood tests to check vitamin and micronutrient levels

  • 25% risk of reflux

  • Sometimes the reflux will require conversion to Roux en Y Gastric Bypass to resolve
