What is it
The Laparoscopic one anastomosis gastric bypass is a variant of the Roux- en-Y Gastric Bypass. It has previously been known as the mini gastric bypass. This operation is now very common because of its excellent results. It is particularily good for people with BMI's greater than 40

How is it done

The operation is keyhole and involves the formation of a 40ml stomach pouch. Then 1.5 to 2m of the small bowel is bypassed by joining the bowel to the bottom of the stomach pouch. No stomach is removed with this operation

1% risk of internal hernia, which require surgery to fix
